On the top floor of this elegant town house, built of pale yellow stone typical of Uzes, this newly refurbished apartment provides a great base for exploring Uzes and the surrounding region. Located on a quiet triangular place, the apartment is conveniently placed close to cafes, restaurants, shops and the historic district of Uzes.
To enter the property, you open the huge old stone portal, and enter the 16th century tower from the passageway. It must be emphasized that there are two flights of stone steps in the circular tower, followed by a simple staircase the last flight up to the apartment. This apartment is not for the physically challenged.
From the tower, unlock a door and enter the small internal courtyard which adjoins the apartment. This courtyard has a teak deck, chairs and a table, and nice planting. It provides a shady and private outdoor space for the apartment.
A practical but narrow staircase takes you up to the apartment which has a surface area of 30m2. The living room is light and airy, with the newly fitted kitchen opening onto the living area. The kitchen is equipped with dishwasher, fridge and oven, sink, and storage for a good range of pots, pans, utensils, china and glasses.
In the living area are a table and chairs, and a sofa which unfolds into a bed. There is a television and dvd player, stereo, and a selection of music, dvds, books and cds. The apartment is tiled throughout with cream coloured ceramic tiles, complementing the light coloured walls. Both the living room and the bedroom face west, benefiting from afternoon sunshine. The apartment has a heat-exchanger system, providing airconditioning in summer and heating in winter.
The bedroom has a queensized double bed (1m 60cm wide) and a triple closet. The bathroom has a bath-tub with shower which has a powerful shower head, a sink and a wc. Large towels and local lavender soaps are provided for your comfort and pleasure.
If the two apartments are booked together, there is an access from the bedroom of the duplex apartment onto the terrace of the apartment at the foot of the staircase. Thus the two lodgings can be connected internally, or you can connect externally using the stone tower and keeping the access separate to each part. It provides a flexible accommodation for up to 6 or 7 people.
When the duplex apartment is not occupied separately, the tenants of the apartment may also use the terrace of the watch tower with its magnificent 360 degree panoramic view of Uzes.
Parking can sometimes be found by the building, but more usually is about 100 metres away in a public parking area. Or if you prefer, garaged parking is available 5 minutes walk away.

Begin in the central Place Aux Herbes, the core of Uzes life for centuries. Cafes spill out from beneath the arcades of this glorious square, complete with a fountain and shady plane trees. A local market is held here each Wednesday morning, and the large market, renowned throughout the region, takes over the whole town every Saturday.
From Place Aux Herbes, small lanes spread out like mishapen spokes of a cartwheel to the circular boulevard, each lined with small stores and restaurants. Special events are held in Uzes throughout the year β festivals of truffles, garlic, wine, plants, silk, books, and antiques. The excellent festival of modern dance, and the delightful Nuites Musicales dβUzes (musical nights) take place in July. In August there is lots of excitement with the bulls running through the streets during the Fete Votive.
For children, the Haribo sweets factory and the Musee 1900 du Train et du Jouet are highly enjoyable visits.
Uzes has a rich history dating from the Romans who built an aqueduct from the source of the Eure river at Uzes, then called Ucetia, to supply water to Nimes. The incredible Pont du Gard, part of this aquaduct, should not be missed. Following the Romans, the bishops ruled Uzes until the 11th century, when Uzes became the first duchy of France, and a long period of conflict between the dukes and the clergy ensued throughout the centuries. The Duchy is open to the public, as are the 17th Cathedrale St. Theodorit, and 12th century Tour Fenestrelle. The Jardin Medievale with its myriad ancient herbs provides an aromatic pause in the sightseeing.
