This villa was built in 2008. It provides a perfect pied-a-terre for a single person or a couple. It is available to rent on its own throughout the winter months of mid-October til mid-March.
The bedroom has two twin beds which can be also made up as a super-king sized double bed. It has windows facing north and west, enjoying afternoon sunlight. Next to the bedroom is the bathroom. It has a large shower stall with pebble flooring, a beautiful sink carved by a local stone sculptor, and w.c.
A short corridor leads from the bedroom and bathroom to the living room. The living room which has large French windows opening onto the terrace. It has a large rattan divan which opens into a 1.60 comfortable double bed, and two rattan armchairs. It also features a wood-burning stove, and a plentiful supply of wood is nearby.
Opening off the living room is the kitchen equipped with gas stove and oven, dishwasher, refrigerator, and micro-wave. The worktops are made of stone and the design is very open with plates, glasses and implements all on shelves within easy reach. There is a dining table and chairs which can be used in the kitchen or moved into the living room.
All the rooms of the villa open onto the pool terrace. There is a large covered terrace with dining table, bbq and a terracotta bee-hive oven that we found in Portugal. The pool is not available during the winter months, but the terrace can still be a pleasant place to relax on warm sunny days.
The villa is located at the far end of the garden. This gives you privacy from the main house, but we need to point out that the parking area is by the farmhouse and so be prepared for a walk through the garden (approximately 100 metres) to reach your property.
St. Quentin lies about 5 kms North of Uzes. It is set on a hillside with wonderful vistas across the vineyards and fields. The villa is set in the garden of a french farmhouse within the village. A short walk or cycle ride brings you into the village itself which has two bakers, (one of which is organic), a butcher, a pharmacy, a small supermarket, a post office, and a newsagents. There is a local bar and restaurant, an organic café, a takeaway pizzeria, and two further restaurants. There is also an 18 room hotel at the top of the village which has a restaurant and terrace with wonderful views of Uzes. Friday is market day in St. Quentin with a splendid array of fresh fruits, vegetables, olives, cheeses, fish and meats.
St. Quentin la Poterie, as its name implies, is famous for its pottery. During the 18th and 19th centuries pipes, pots and bowls were produced here, based on the Terre Rouge, the clay found nearby to the villa. This industry declined at the end of the 19th century, but has been revitalized during the past 20 years with numerous potters and artisans now established in the village lanes. Many a pleasant hour can be spent visiting these, and also the Musee de la Poterie with its fine collection of regional pottery.
The two main social events in St. Quentin are the Terrelha, a biannual pottery exhibition in July, and the Fete Votive every August. For three days the village has a funfair and bullrunning in the streets.
